Harmonies
Harmonies of Alsace

Marie Jaëll-Trautmann was born on August 17, 1846 in Steinseltz, village of the North of Alsace, near Wissembourg.

Her father, George Trautmann, was a farmer and the mayor of the village, which he contributed much to modernize.

Her mother, Christine Schopfer, very cultivated and strong personality, had the reputation to be original. She encouraged the musical gifts of her daughter and organized her first concerts.

Even if her career were primarily Parisian, Marie keeps a deep attachment with this ground of Alsace where she lived her early childhood. Whatever her evolution and the events which will mark out her life, she will regularly go back there in family.

Is it not astonishing that she gave this title to a conference presented in Paris, in a scientific context : Some observations addressed to the Society of Physics by a musician from Alsace ? Moreover, Harmonies of Alsace is the title of her last composition.

Marie Jaëll died in 1925.
